Lodge 1952

Moose Lodge 1952 dates back to 1962.  The earliest meetings were held in the basement at Buck Drapers house and then at the Bel Air American Legion.  It became official on May 6, 1962 at the Bel Air American Legion when 162 members were enrolled into Lodge 1952 and the first offiDonkey Baseball Newspaper Clipping June 23, 1964 edited for webpagecers of were installed.  An additional 40 applicants were unable to attend the meeting and were enrolled at a later date.  The first officers were:  Jr Past Governor, Raymond Fulker; Governor, John Wilkinson, Jr; Jr Governor, Stanley Getz; Prelate, J. Vaughan McMahan; Secretary, Robert J. Draper, Jr; Treasurer, Carroll Barnes; Trustees, Paige Richardson, Charles Durham, and John A. Ryan; Sgt-at-Arms, Charles Famous; Ast Sgt-At-Arms, Ralph Durham; Outer Guard, Howard Johnson.  Some of the original Charter members included Jim Lagan, Grey Schillinger, Wiley Graybeal, J. Orville Ryan, Maynard Ryan, Kenneth Ryan, Jim Rinehart, Charles Head, Barney Frew, Dick Warfield, Frank Stifler, Bill Grant, and Harry Detamore.

Charles Lutz established the first official residence of Lodge 1952 on the second floor of the Lutz appliance store on Main Street, Bel Air.

During the late 1970s and early 1980s the lodge would buy a champion steers at the Maryland State Fair.  The steer would be raffled off by the lodge.  It wasn’t unusual to find members of the lodge, with steer in hand, in front of Klein’s on Main Street in Bel Air selling tickets.Steer Raffle
